About CORAL platform
Helping solve complex challenges for the SMA community in India.
As Roche, we are always striving to find innovative solutions for SMA, so that it ultimately leads to better outcomes for our patients. We acutely believe that no matter how complex or rare a disease may be, no patient should be left out. Over the last few months, the Roche Pharma India team has been working with multiple stakeholders for the CORAL platform, which has been recently made available for healthcare professionals in India. The CORAL platform integrates technology to solve barriers within the SMA ecosystem— for not only patients but also caregivers, making treatment pathways and healthcare inclusive, and more accessible. We consider this to be an important milestone for the SMA community in India as it aims to provide a better treatment journey to our patients; enhances the treatment experience and aims to fill the gaps within the Indian SMA ecosystem.
The CORAL platform aims to solve four main challenges within the SMA ecosystem:
1. Access to treatment:
Enabling SMA patients to access treatments from the comfort of their homes; right from treatment initiation to final delivery of the medicine to patients’ doorstep, to requiring no follow-ups from the patient or the caregiver. This makes access to treatment seamless and convenient for our patients.
2. Creating awareness about SMA:
Ensuring that patients and their family members are educated in the best way possible about living with SMA; fostering awareness about caring for those who have SMA and also strengthening a feeling of hope for the patients and their loved ones.
3. Treatment follow-up:
Providing physicians or healthcare providers with up-to-date information about the well-being of their patients beyond clinical visits. Letting HCPs track and monitor the well-being of their patients and delivery of timely medicines, even in areas where health facilities and transport is not very accessible.
4. Patient-Physician communication:
Improving communication of patients with their physicians beyond in-clinic visits and ensuring a holistic treatment journey with the help of CORAL’s digital integration.
How does the CORAL platform work in India?
As we know, India is a diverse, heterogeneous country geographically, and many patients find it cumbersome to constantly follow up for their medicine delivery. To make the delivery more convenient for patients who may have issues with access to transportation, we have executed the first phase of CORAL platform in India that focuses on making treatment accessible for SMA patients in India.
Some benefits of CORAL platform for patients & healthcare professionals:
Earlier, there was no record or intimation available for healthcare professionals to know if a patient received the medicine which they had prescribed. Roche’s CORAL platform addresses this challenge where both- the HCP as well as the patient are able to track the movement of medicines, right from initiation point to delivery point. The patient can also get an estimate of the delivery date and are able to schedule the medicine delivery as per their availability at home.
The HCPs can easily access realtime updates of medicine movement right from their clinic without any follow ups with us or delivery partners, or patients. The ease of operation, contactless delivery options enhances the overall experience, nurtures the relationship between patient-HCP, and also becomes a great time saver.
How is a patient order generated via CORAL?
- Roche’s Patient Support Team creates an order on CORAL by logging in.
- An email intimation about order creation is sent to the delivery partner after which a confirmation about delivery schedule is done by contacting the patient or HCP, and details are entered in the system by our delivery partner.
- All the details of the delivery pharmacist with date & time of delivery are updated within the system.
- After delivery, the HCP or the patient gives a confirmation receipt to our delivery partner, which gets immediately updated on CORAL.
How can HCPs use this platform?
- When HCP’s profile is created by our team, a username & password auto generated by the CORAL system is sent to their email address. Registered HCPs can log in any time on https://platformcoral.com/ with their username & password.
- After logging in, the HCP can see realtime updates of medicine transit journeys, delivery schedules & the timeline by which the patient will receive a medicine.
How can patients use this platform?
Since pandemic took a toll on the healthcare system, safe and easy medicine delivery at the comfort of our homes became a priority. Through CORAL, we plan to give our patients live medicine delivery updates, at every step of the transit journey. However, SMS integration is still in process, and our team is working on making more resources available for the Indian SMA community.
Once SMS integration is active, our patient support team will add patient details during the time of order creation and they will start receiving updates once their medicines are shipped. Please stay tuned to this page for further updates!
